Brad Roberts, 69, of Pensacola and a pioneer in the field of energy storage, received God's call for safe keeping on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 with his wife Betty and family at his side. Brad was born in Huntington, WV and was a long time resident of Pensacola.

Brad Roberts was the Power Quality Systems Director for the Power Quality group of S&C Electric Company, which specializes in low and medium-voltage power protection systems.

Mr. Roberts for over 35 years experience in the design and operation of critical power systems, ranging from single phase UPS systems to medium-voltage applications. He began his engineering work as a systems reliability engineer in the Apollo Lunar Module Program at Cape Kennedy. He held senior management positions in two of the major UPS manufacturers during his career. Brad was a senior life member of IEEE and had published over 50 technical papers and journal articles on critical power system design and energy storage technology.

Brad was a registered professional engineer and has a BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) degree from the University of Florida. He was a graduate of Pensacola High School and was a member of the Pensacola Fighting Tiger Band under William Holston's direction. He marched in the Inaugural Parade for President John F. Kennedy. He is Past-Chairman of the IEEE Power Engineering Society's Emerging Technologies Committee and Executive Director of the Electricity Storage Association (ESA) and Past Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the ESA Board for 10 years. Mr. Roberts was a member of the US Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee. He has testified before the US Congress on the need for more energy storage in utility grids. He was a member of the University of Florida's College of Engineering Advisory Committee.

Brad was the 2004 recipient of the John Mungenast International Power Quality Award and the 2009 recipient of the Phil Symons Electricity Storage Award. He was a Senior Life Member of IEEE.

Brad supported the Pensacola community with the Pensacola Opera, Pensacola Symphony, Pensacola Art Museum, Pensacola Country Club, Pensacola Yacht Club and various education organizations. He chose to live in Pensacola, the city he loved. He was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Pensacola. He was always looking forward to world traveling, meeting friends and giving hope to others for the future.

Brad is survived by his wife, Betty Brewer Roberts of Pensacola; sister, Patty Roberts Godley (Nathan) of Savannah, GA; niece, Alicia Lysak (Bob) of Alpharetta, GA; nephews, Nathan Godley (Selena) of Los Angeles, CA and Patrick Godley of Savannah, GA; great niece and nephew, Erika and Teddy Lysak; cousins, Florence Pokrant, Elaine Pokrant, Marie Pokrant and James Pokrant all of Pensacola; Vivian Oberhaus of Napoleon, OH, Carol Ann Bosserman of Salisbury, MD, Sue and Don Griffith of Mendenhall, MS.

Other family members from Brad's Pryor side of the family include his aunt, Dorothy Pryor McClure of Huntington, WV; uncle, Harold Logan of Huntington, WV; cousins, Mark McClure (Susie) of Frisco, TX, Kimberly Odum of Frisco, TX, Scott McClure of Plano, TX, Dwight McClure (Dennis Phillips) of Cazenovia, WI, Doug Logan (Patty) of Smithburg, MD, Russell Logan and Caitlin Logan of Smithburg, MD, Pam McClure Stumbo (Bill) of Birmingham, AL, Stephanie Stumbo Mitchell (Patrick) of Lexington, KY, Laura Stumbo Brown (Michael) of Birmingham, AL, Barbara Logan Leiwes of San Jose, CA, Christina Leiwes, Connor and Caylie Leiwes of Santa Clara, CA, Carla Leiwes, Sean and Caden Leiwes of San Jose, CA, and Bradford Logan of Pittsburgh, PA.

Visitation will be 3:00pm to 5:00pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Service will be 10:00am Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

The Roberts family would like to thank the staffs at Sacred Heart Hospital and the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Facilities for their wonderful and professional care given to Brad and our family.
