Donald L. "Duke" Snyder, Sr.

1935 - 2014

Donald L. "Duke" Snyder Sr., age 79, of Pensacola was called from this earth on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Donald was born February 11, 1935 in Concordia City, Kansas to Claude and Laura Snyder. He was the 11th of 12 children, born on the 11th day and weighed 11 lbs. 11 oz. He joined the United States Navy in 1954 and served 4 years, where he was graciously given the nickname "Duke". He moved to Pensacola in 1960, and went to work for Livendco, Inc. where he retired after 30 years. Not liking retirement, he sought employment as a civilian at Pensacola NAS, where he retired after 15+ years. He was a life member of AmVets Post 12, where he enjoyed spending time and telling jokes amongst friends. He was a wonderful man, loving father, grandpa, brother and friend to everyone. He exemplified strength, wisdom, integrity, and humility and was an inspiration and role model to all of his children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his 8 children, Zachary (Brianna) Clarkson, Donald L. (Linda) Snyder Jr., Jorga Duran, Katrina (Bob) Sanford, Dona Snyder, Mark (Tania) Snyder, Todd Snyder, John (Diana) Snyder; a brother, Duane (Dorothy) Snyder; 2 sisters, Kathleen Kagle and Darlene Ellison; 17 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many countless friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. until the service begins at 11:30 a.m. at Trahan Family Funeral Home Chapel.
