George Risdon McDonald, 74, Sgt First Class US Army (Retired), passed into the arms of his Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Mr. McDonald was born on December 4, 1938 to William Risdon McDonald and Alice Wynell Ware McDonald, in Pensacola, FL.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1977, where he served two tours in Germany and two tours in Vietnam. He was a bridge builder with the 547th and other Engineer construction Battalions. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars, and two Commendation Medals for meritorious service while in Vietnam. He was also a faithful member of the Olive Baptist Church.
Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Redmond and Charles McDonald , and a step son David Chaney.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Chaney McDonald; four children: Alice Campbell of Pace, William McDonald of Milton, Daniel McDonald of Indianapolis, IN and Darryl McDonald of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, John E. McDonald of Pace, and Sydney D. McDonald of Marianna, along with a special Aunt Monette Owens. He will also be deeply missed by three step-children, Becky (Larry) Mac k of Pace, Mark (Judy) Chaney of Elberta, AL and Tony (Trisha) Chaney of Daphne, AL; thirteen step-grandchildren, and 35 step-great-grandchildren
Funeral Services for Mr. McDonald will be held at 7 pm on Monday , February 4, 2013 at the Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel, with Dr. Ted Traylor, officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 5 pm on Monday, prior to services, at the Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel.
Burial will be the following day, on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 11:45 am at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard Pensacola N.A.S. with Rev. Claine Roberts officiating.
