James Randall "Randy" Brown
The Guest Book is expired.
James Randall "Randy" Brown, 71, Milton, FL went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 16, 2013 after battling 8 years of cancer. He was born March 3, 1942 in Bagdad, FL.
A 1960 graduate of Milton High School, he was president of his senior Class and President of the Key Club. Brown attended one year each, PJC and Marion Military Institute, and University of Southern Mississippi three years, majoring in Business Administration and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He was a retired Gulf Power employee whose 40 plus year career allowed him to work in Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and to manage the Niceville area and finally the Milton area. Randy enjoyed his career with Gulf Power Company. He enjoyed golfing with son, grandsons, brother, son-in-law, other family and friends and co-workers, fishing with his father for many years and later with son, Jay, and grandson, Jay-Jay, and friends, especially long-time friend, Jimmy Stewart. Randy was a wonderful, loving husband and father to his children, and son to his precious Mother, Ruth Brown, always seeing to her care and that of his Father until his death.
Randy served as President of Niceville Chamber of Commerce, getting local pastors involved in the organization, and Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, serving on numerous committees and on Team Santa Rosa, President of Gulf Power Company Credit Union, and serving as President of Ft. Walton Beach Lions Club, growing membership from 34 members to 110 members in one year and received the Support of Spiritual Aims Award from that organization, serving also as Regional Lions Club Chairman one year. Brown helped bring Habitat for Humanity to Ft. Walton Beach, serving as President one year. Member of Rotary Club of Santa Rosa County. He served as President of Santa Rosa County United Way for three years and served on the Board of Directors for 10 plus years until his death.
An exciting experience he enjoyed: Landing on the Enterprise via jet, by tailgate, spending the night and taking off from the carrier. The most exciting time of his life was with his family, including his devoted brother and sister, Greg and Ann.
His greatest achievement was his avid passion for studying and teaching God's word for over 40 years, serving as an ordained Deacon wherever he lived, ending where he began: Milton First Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Chairman of Personnel Committee and Chairman of Trustees and served on Intercessory Prayer Team. Wonderful attribute: helping others without fanfare and credit (Matt. 6:3). In the past, he was instrumental in helping build the second, not third, Immanuel Baptist Church building in Pace, FL, serving as Youth Director, and Youth Music Director, growing youth from 3 members to over 60, and was instrumental in helping build Florosa Baptist Church building and congregation in Mary Esther, FL. He enjoyed preaching, teaching and a number of his students from all churches, became pastors and missionaries. He was gifted by our Lord with wonderful leadership skills, which Randy used to God's glory and gave Him credit for all that was accomplished. His favorite verse: Jeremiah 33:3.
He is preceded in death by his father, Volney, L. Brown and grandparents, Lee (Ada) Brown and Millard (Pearl) Grace.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betsy Brown, Milton, FL; son, Jay (Jackie) Brown, Fort Walton Beach, FL; daughter, Stephanie Brown (Zack) Sims, Milton, FL; four grandchildren, Cody, Jon Jay, Tyndale, Eli; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; his mother, Ruth Grace Brown, of Milton, FL; sister, Ann Brown Morris (Jesse, deceased), Springfield, VA; brother, Greg (Kim) Brown, Milton, FL; sister-in-law, Mary Kate (Pete) Williams, Pace, FL and several nieces and nephews, including: 12 Grace first-cousins.
