1947-2012
Dr. James L. Robinett, Jr., 65, of Pensacola, FL passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012.
James graduated from Catholic High School in 1965 as class valedictorian and continued his education at Loyola University in New Orleans (B.S. Physics), Louisiana State University in New Orleans (M.S. Physics) and University of New Orleans (Ph.D. Physics).
In the early to mid 80's James taught undergraduate computer science courses as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at UNO. This was followed by more than a decade of working as a member of the technical staff at Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology. Closer to home, James worked for Nichols Research Corp and later as a consultant. After surviving a heart attack and two surgeries, he worked as his stamina allowed, doing some private tutoring, consulting and sub work in area high schools.
James was a voracious reader and student of history, philosophy, mathematics, physics and Latin. He was also interested in computers, programming, the study of linguistic evolution, statistics and analyzing card games. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his brothers.
He is preceded in death by his uncle, J.C. Harris and his grandmother, Rose Harris.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Carol N. Robinett of Pensacola; children, Matthew Robinett of Pensacola, Lori Coleman of McDavid and Lisa Hozey of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; parents, Barbara Robinett and James L. Robinett, Sr. of Pensacola; grandchild, Jessica Jowers of McDavid; as well as his brothers, Curt, Michael and Chris Robinett of Pensacola, Mark Robinett of Tampa and Joel Robinett of Connecticut.
Memorial Service will be held 3:00pm Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504 with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to AHA, American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

Carol,
We are so sorry for your loss. You have our deepest sympathy and our prayers for Loris as well as for you. Over the years I enjoyed a number of wide-ranging conversations with Loris on science, engineering, computers and history. I will remember the man and his ideas.
