JOHN KEY GRIFFIN, JR.
1929 - 2013
John Key Griffin, Jr., 84, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who will be missed and remembered as a friendly and generous person who touched many lives.
John was born on January 6, 1929 in Dublin, Georgia. He attended Dublin High School and graduated from the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Georgia Tech University in 1952 with a degree in textile engineering. While at Georgia Tech he was active in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After graduation he served in the Army Corp of Engineers in the Korean War.
John started his civilian career in West Palm Beach, Florida as an engineer for the Texaco Oil Company. He moved to Pensacola in 1967 as an engineer with Monsanto. Upon retiring in 1985, John became a devoted FSU fan, volunteer and active grandfather, never missing a function or sports game of his beloved grandchildren. He was a long time member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Pensacola.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joyce M. Griffin, who died in 1999. His survivors include son John "Key" Griffin, III of Atlanta, Ga. and son Mark and daughter-in-law Michelle Griffin of Pensacola, Florida. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren Payne and Hayden Griffin (Key Griffin), and Lauren, Anna and Luke Griffin (Mark and Michelle) of Pensacola. He will also be missed by Charley, the family dachshund.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family memorial will be held in the spring in his hometown of Dublin, Georgia.
