Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Armstrong

1943-2014

On July 30, 2014, Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Armstrong was taken to her Heavenly Home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Daytona Beach, FL, on November 8, 1943, to Charles and Mary Armstrong, but was a long-time resident of Pensacola. After graduating from Pensacola High School, Kathy joined the U.S. Navy, serving for eight years as a medical assistant and hospital corpsman. She received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon her honorable discharge, she earned an AA degree from Pensacola Junior College and her BA in English Education and her MA in English from the University of West Florida.

Kathy began her teaching career as a substitute teacher, but for the majority of her teaching years, she worked at Pine Forest High School. After her retirement from the Escambia County School District, Kathy continued to do some substitute teaching, and she became a classroom volunteer at Pine Forest assisting with the school's yearbook and newspaper production. For her thousands of hours in the classroom, she was recognized as the school district Volunteer of the Year.

Kathy was devoted to her students and to her various pet cats and kittens. She was a very generous person, supporting a number of local and national charities and organizations, most notably the Humane Society and Veteran organizations. A dedicated educator and loyal friend, Kathy will be missed by her many students and friends, especially her "adopted" families, the Livingstons and the Jewetts.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Joseph.

Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until memorial service begins at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the funeral home to celebrate Kathy's life. Pastor Andrew Blackmon of Pine Forest United Methodist Church will officiate at the services, and burial at Barrancas National Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
