1920 - 2012

Dr. Manning Harold Hanline, Sr., died August 10, 2012, in his home in Gulf Breeze, Florida, in the company of family.

Manning was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Mary Andrews Hanline and Harold Clement Hanline. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo; his Master of Arts from the University of Michigan, and his PhD from the Ohio State University. He served during World War II in the US navy from 1942 to 1946 as a Supply Officer aboard the USS Zaurak in the Pacific, having attended Harvard University in Naval Finance and Supply in preparation for his military service.

After receiving his MA in Economics in 1947, Manning was employed by Willys-Overland Motors, Inc., F.L. Jacobs Co., and Chrysler Corporation. He then completed his PhD in 1965 and held academic positions at Bowling Green State University, the University of Oklahoma, Southern Illinois University, and Central Michigan University. He joined the Faculty of Management at the University of West Florida in 1969 and retired in 1985 as full Professor. While at UWF, he was active in the collective bargaining efforts of the United Faculty of Florida. After retirement, he was an avid gentleman farmer on his Alabama acres until his health failed.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anne Sekerka Hanline; his three children, Dr. Manning Hanline, Jr., Dr. Mary Frances Hanline, and David Hanline; and his six grandchildren, Trinity Anne, Andrew, John Manning, Jonathon, Leigha, and Allison.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, in honor of Manning Hanline, Sr., or to a charity which benefits the less fortunate.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday August 15, 2012 from 1:30 until 2:30 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, Gulf Breeze with funeral services following at 2:30 PM. A graveside inurnment will take place at a later date in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
