Peter John Lysek

1922 - 2014

Peter J. Lysek, age 92, born June 13, 1922 in Summerdale, AL departed this life on Sunday, June 15, 2014 in Bonner Springs, KS.

Peter was married 60 years to the love of his life, Toinette Alderman Lysek. He served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Naval Air Rework Facility at NAS for 13 years. During his Air Force career he served in the Army Air Corp in WWII as a flight engineer on a B24 Bomber. He was shot down over Germany on his 41st mission and taken prisoner of war July 20, 1944 and was interned in Switzerland until he was released February 17, 1945. He also served in Korea, Japan and Thule, Greenland and was a highly decorated Veteran with Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Metal.

Daddy belonged to the Polish-American Heritage Society of Pensacola and was president in 1998. He loved fishing at the lake in Mound City, KS, crabbing, gardening and making Triple P wine. He also loved RVing and cruising with his wife and family. He just loved life and God.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Lysek, born in Poland and Mary Bielak Lysek, also born in Poland; 11 brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by daughters, Irene (Sam) Forck and Tina Hermen; sons, John (Diane) Lysek, Gerald Lysek and Bruce (Gina) Lysek; grandchildren, Tonya (Tim) Bright, Kendra (Larry) Burmaster, Samantha (Eric) Cole, Rachael Forck, Valorie (Gabriel) Thompson, Kymberli Lysek, Laci (Jesse) Kupec, Cameron Mullen, Amber Rafert, Ethan Rafert and Josh Rafert; great-grandchildren, Alex Bright, Brienna Bright, Isabel Cole, Alanna Cole, Holly Burmaster, Bronwen Thompson, Jada Lysek and Nora Kupec and his sister, Evelyn Genrich.

Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel North Monday, June 23, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church with interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
