Roscoe Watson, Jr.


Roscoe Watson, Jr., 88 of Pensacola, passed away on July 25, 2014 in a local hospital. He was born in Enterprise, Alabama to the late E. Roscoe Watson and Thelma Watson on August 30, 1925.

Mr. Watson was loved and respected by all who knew him and was known as Papaw to his family. As a father he instilled core values and guiding principles that have served his family well. He was a member of Olive Baptist Church where he taught the eldest men's class for many years. He enjoyed studying the Word and preparing each week. Gardening was a hobby that took a lot of his time during the year as well as woodworking in his shop and fishing.

He was a WWII Veteran and after being discharged from there he, as an electrician, followed construction around the country until settling in Pensacola, in 1955 as an industrial electrician at St. Regis Paper Company from where he retired in 1985. He was also a longtime member of the Ferry Pass Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a son, Mark R. Watson (Sherry); a daughter, Susan Pearson (Huey); his grandson, Paul Pearson (Sally); granddaughters, Sarah Bere (Jeff) and April Davidson; great-granddaughter, London Bere; a brother, Ted Watson (Sandra) and one niece and numerous nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Evie Nell Watson and three brothers, Glen Watson, Roswell Watson and C.D. Watson.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the building fund of Olive Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Olive Baptist Church Worship Center with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Ted Traylor officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Paul Pearson, Jeff Bere, Dennis Watson, Mark Ard, Gary Deal and Roger Deal. Honorary pallbearers will be The Urquhart Men's Sunday School Class of Olive Baptist Church.
