Swann, Jr.

1927-2013

William Alfred "Al" Swann, Jr., 86, a resident of Pensacola, died September 3, 2013 in Pensacola. Al was a loving husband and father who touched the lives of many, many people.

Al was born August 19, 1927 in Tampa, FL. Al served in the Judge Advocate General's corps in the Army during the Korean War era. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida and practiced law for over 50 years in Pensacola. Al played drums in a swing band during his college years. He subsequently learned to play organ and keyboards and became a fixture in the jazz music scene in Pensacola. He was a member of the Jazz Society of Pensacola and often performed on the drums at local events. He also performed on keyboard for the Friday afternoon cocktail parties at Azalea Trace retirement community. Al was a member of Rotary International and received the Paul Harris Fellow award for exceptional community service from Rotary.

He was preceded in death by wife, Ida Hull Swann.

He is survived by his wife, Corinne Swann; daughter and granddaughter, Laura Swann and Elizabeth Evelyn Allen of Arlington, VA; son and daughter-in-law, William Alfred "Bill" Swann, Ill and Donna Jean Swann.

Memorial Service will be held at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Al's ashes will be placed in the St. Christopher's Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3200 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32503, in honor of the St. Christopher's music programs.
