George Joseph Lorenz, 75, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 11, 2013, at Hosparus, Norton Pavilion in Louisville, Ky.

George was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., to the late George and Laverne Lorenz. Also preceding him in death were his stepmother, Jo Gruver Chapman; his sisters, Gloria Lindauer and Carole Lorenz and a brother, Art Lorenz.
George was a 1955 graduate of Tell City High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, Petty Officer 2nd Class, on the USS Intrepid from 1955-59. He retired from working life in 2003 after serving as a college rep for Lincoln Technical Institute as well as a varied career in sales, insurance and human resources.
He previously lived in Chicago and St. Louis, Mo., until he retired to Rome. George was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Hoosier Heights Country Club. George was married Aug. 13, 1966, to the former Judith Loch, who survives.
Other survivors include his children, Tonia Lorenz of Chicago; Christine (Mike) Laatz of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Matthew (Kathleen Vedock) Lorenz of Hereford, Ariz., and Betsy (Leo) Oei of Edmund, Okla.; his sisters, Donna Groves of Rome and Barbara Burns of Austin; a brother, Jim Lorenz of Midland, Texas; his grandchildren, Justin, Ryan and Lily Laatz and Amelia, Reagan and Oliver Oei, and his many nieces and nephews.
Besides his family and helping others, George was passionate about golf, playing the game itself, the rules, different courses, its history and its players. He also enjoyed his music, fishing, history, traveling, a good cup of coffee and his dogs, Ralph and Fizz. He was a consummate Republican and never avoided a political discussion.
George wanted to be remembered as a gentleman and a scholar, which he was.
