JOAN M., (nee Plante), beloved wife, mother, sister, teacher and friend, passed away peace-fully after a long illness at her home in Drexel Hill on October 18, 2013, at the age of 69.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, John L. Weil; her two daughters, Kimberly (Hector Negroni) Weil of NY, NY and Heather (Gerry Kaspar) Weil of College-ville, PA; her sister Jean Plante McNelis of Chestnut Hill; her brother Stuart E. Plante of Abington, PA. She is also survived by five adoring grand-children, Frank, Samantha, Tyler, Grace and Emily and one great-grandchild, Savannah.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Manhasset, L.I. before moving to Jenkintown, PA in 1959 with her family. She graduated from Abington High School in 1962 and from Drexel University in 1966 with a BS in Home Economics.
Joan will be fondly remem-bered for her deeply compassionate nature and dedi-cation, especially to children. She taught high school home economics in the Deptford, NJ School District and more recently in the Upper Darby School District where she was instrumental in the develop-ment of the After School Program, cherishing her work with the elementary school children.
Joan was known for her artistic and creative nature which inspired her to develop and run a successful small business in the 1980's called Basket Originals. Active in the community, she also served as a board member of the Drexel Park Homeowners Association.
Family and friends are invited to a Viewing on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6 to 8 P.M. at the TOPPITZER FUNERAL HOME, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA which is located on the grounds of the Arlington Cemetery. A Viewing will also take place on Thurs-day, October 24th from 10 to 11 A.M. at St. Andrew The Apostle, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA. At 11 A.M. there will be Mass of Christian Burial, immediately followed by the Entombment at Arling-ton Cemetery in Drexel Hill. Contributions in Joan's memory may be made to The Clyde F.
