JOHN M., 80, of Hatfield, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. (Swiatek) Sondey, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born November 7, 1933, in Passaic, NJ, John was the son of the late Joseph and Francis (Wojciechowska) Sondey. He attended New York University.
Mr. Sondey served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea as a Radar Technician. After serving, John became a published medicinal research chemist. He was employed by Merck & Co., Inc. for 35 years. While first employed at the Rahway N.J. division of Merck Sharp & Dohme, Mr. Sondey was part of a team that performed the first successful laboratory Synthesis of a Ribonuclease Enzyme.
John liked antiquing and bookbinding; his favorite hobbies were his books and old watches. He also enjoyed baseball, times on Long Beach Island, Brimfield, Nantucket, Maine and Charleston, SC, and the endless search for the perfect homemade pie. He was a compassionate family man that will be missed by all his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include, his three children, Scott Sondey, Paula Sondey, and Dawn Boggs, wife of the late Sheldon Boggs; 2 grandchildren, Laura and Rebecca Boggs; and one sister, Helen Jarotski and her husband, Walter, of Wallington, NJ.
The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Maria Goretti Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield. The family will receive friends from 9 - 10 A.M. in the Church. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery.
