COL. LESTER SAUL, of Cherry Hill, NJ. 29 March 2013. Father of Mark (Linda) Taube, John (Betsy) Taube, Cheryl (Ron) Murphy, and Erica Taube. Grandfather of Samantha, Matthew, Eileen, Lounes and Mokrane. Born 5 June 1920 in Trenton NJ to Russian and Lithuanian immigrants.
Started his career early with horse artillery of NJ National Guard. Attended Rutgers University, worked for U.S. Justice Department and National Archives in Washing-ton, D.C. Later joined U.S. Army in 1940. During WW II, fought in South Pacific at Emuru, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After recuperating from wounds and malaria, left Army to manage electronic company in California, paper stock company in Pennsylvania, and logging and pulp wood cutting operation in Quebec, Canada.
Recalled to duty during Korean action, became advisor to Turkish army as company commander and intelligence officer. During Vietnam War, served as Chief of Operations of US Army in Europe. Prior to retiring as full colonel, created chain of laundries in France that became largest in Europe. Subsequently wrote and pub-lished fiction novels that optioned for motion pictures.
Later became economic develop-ment specialist for State of New Jersey until final retire-ment. Dad was a colorful, articulate, confident, humorous man who loved life, people, adventure, challenges, learning and most importantly his family, country and heritage.
Relatives and friends are invited Friday April 5th beginning 9:30 A.M. to PLATT MEMORIALS CHAPELS, 2001 BERLIN ROAD, CHERRY HILL, NJ where funeral services will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M. Int. Greenwood Cemetery, Trenton NJ. In lieu of flowers and on behalf of a close dear friend to Dad, family invites donations be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org.
