Notice Condolences



SHIRLEY WARREN, 59, Chester Upland Music Teacher, peacefully passed away on October 20, 2013 at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Born in Chester, PA she was the daughter of the late Levert Bolton and Lillian Warren. She lived in Wilmington, DE for the past 30 years.
She was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1972 and graduated from the Temple University School of Music in 1976. She was employed at the Chester Upland School District for 37 years currently teaching at the Chester Upland School of the Arts (CUSA). In addition she studied voice at the Settlement School of Music in Philadelphia and also studied under the late, great Todd Duncan of "Porgy and Bess" fame.
She was baptized and grew up in Thomas M. Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church and sang on the choirs. She enjoyed sharing her love of music throughout the city and taught her skills to several generations of families. She was extremely generous with her talents and extended her love for children in other countries. After the earthquake in Haiti her love of children led her to spend her time and resources to adopt a school and village in the mountains of Juampa, Haiti, and functioned as a godmother to the children there.
Survived by her husband Brian T. Douglas of Wilmington, DE; 1 daughter Ashley L. Douglas of Wilmington, DE; her mother Lillian Warren of Chester; 2 sisters, Rev. Bernice Warren of Chester and Eva Henry (Arthur) of Claymont, DE; a beloved niece Kearni N. Warren; father-in-law Frederick Douglas and mother-in-law Arlena Douglas; brothers-in-law Aaron Douglas (Peggy) and Eric Douglas; sisters-in-law Arlena Alston, Carrie Washington (Allen); Valarie Douglas; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and Chester Upland School District family.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10 A.M. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Thomas M. Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1408 West Third St., Chester, PA.
VIEWING: 8-10 A.M. at the church.
INTERMENT: Haven Memorial Cemetery, Chester Twp., PA.
