Kitty Hawk - Alvis Gold "Sam" Beacham, 89, of Kitty Hawk, died Saturday May 25, 2013, at home with his family. Sam was born November 17, 1923 in Cape False, VA. He was predeceased by his parents Walter H. and Bertie Lee Perry Beacham.
Sam was a graduate of Kitty Hawk High School, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, owner of Outer Banks Contractors, an original member of the Kitty Hawk Fire Dept and developer of Kitty Hawk Landing subdivision. He was a veteran having served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. He also served in a number of civic and community organizations. During the last five years of his life, Sam fulfilled a longstanding goal by building a custom 32 ft. boat in his own personal workshop. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was dedicated to his family and community.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Gay Dowdy Beacham. Also surviving are three sons: Mike Beacham and wife Wanda, Ricky Beacham and Tim Beacham and wife Loui. His seven grandchildren are Brad, Matt, Jason, Richard, Sarah, Samuel and Maggie Gay Beacham. He also has seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Calvin Beacham and wife Ethel Beacham and brother Glenn "Port" Beacham. Sam is also survived by his sister-in- law Jean Beacham (Port).
A celebration of life will be at Austin Cemetery on Monday May 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. by Elder Gene Lupton and Elder Milton Lupton and Rev. Brad Bradshaw. Friends may join the family for a visitation at Twiford Funeral Home on Sunday evening May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
