Basilio S. Bugarin

Virginia Beach - After 92 years, Basilio "Eliong" Bugarin laid to rest in paradise on Sunday, December 29, 2013.

Basilio was born on January 15, 1921, in Daligan, Jones Isabella, Philippines to the late Cornelio and Maria Bugarin. Basilio was the third child out of nine brothers and sisters. A native of the Philippines, Basilio fought alongside the United States soldiers and served as a part of the guerilla unit during World War II. Years after the war, and starting a family, he decided to find opportunities and a better life in America. In 1983, Basilio and his family started their new lives in Virginia Beach, Va.

He leaves his memories to be cherished by his loving wife of 65 years, Marcelina Bugarin, and five children, Reynaldo Bugarin and wife Maria, Basilio Bugarin Jr. and wife Cynthia, Evelyn Alvarez, Corazon Placides and husband, Emilio, and Edgardo Bugarin and wife, Rebecca. His legacy lives on through his 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. There will be a mass at 12 noon on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Mark's Catholic Church on Kempsville Road followed by a memorial service held at Hollomon Brown Funeral Home on Kempsville Road at 2 p.m.
