Virginia Beach - Benjamin Jack Morehead went home on December 19, 2013. We know he is happy with his mother and father, who he had not seen since he was 9 years old. Born July 3, 1930 in Paris, Texas, Ben was able to overcome tragedy at a young age and joined the United States Navy. He retired as a Master Chief after serving his country for 21 years. He then worked for Queens Construction for several years and then retired from NAVSEACENTLANT after 22 years. Ben loved to read, watch NASCAR and football with his buddies, had a passion for rebuilding British sports cars, and so enjoyed his afternoon martini and a smoke overlooking his beautiful yard. He was an honest and hardworking man, helpful to his neighbors and friends, and hardly knew a stranger. He had an uncanny gift of making you feel like the most important person in the room. Those who knew him well will forever miss his warmth, generosity, sense of humor and his "Ben" way with words. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Rosemarie, four children: Anne Barbato, Susann Daugherty (Brian), Catherine Hobbs (Donnie) and Benjamin (Ashley). Also left behind are his four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A life celebration will be held at the Church of the Ascension Va. Beach on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2 p.m.
