CDR Robert D. Harrop

Virginia Beach - CDR Robert D. Harrop passed away July 20, 2014. He was born July 2,1930 and the youngest of Mr. and Mrs. James Harrop. He attended Samuel Gorton HS in Warwick, RI and was class president in his soph, jr and sr years. He attended the University of Rhode Island and left to join the Naval Aviation Cadet Program in April of 1951. He received his Navy wings and commission as Ensign in November 1952. He was a pilot for VA-195, VAH 3,9 and RVAH 11. He flew AD, A3D and RA5C aircraft. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Navy in 1973 and was a teacher for the Va Beach Schools for 12 yrs. He taught at Bayside Jr HS, Kempsville HS and VOTech. He is a graduate of Ohio State University with BS degree. He also attended the Naval Post Graduate School Monterey, CA, Navy War College Newport RI and ODU Norfolk VA. His wife Peggy was a flight attendant for United Air in CA where they met. He is survived by his wife of 60 yrs Peggy, their three children Linda Burba, Mark Harrop (& Janet) and Edward Harrop, his brother Jim (wife Marie) and nieces & nephews. Services will be private for immediate family.
