Charles H. Carson Jr.

Chesapeake - Charles Hamilton Carson Jr, 77, passed away on January 3, 2014.

Charles was born in Pitt County, NC in 1936 to the late Charles Hamilton Carson, Sr. and Sally Cherry Carson, and was also predeceased by his sister, Ann Thacker.

He was an Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He earned an engineering degree from Virginia Tech in 1963. Charles retired in 1993 from the Dept. of the Navy, Naval Sea Support Center, Atlantic, after 38 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed computers and gardening. He was also very passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours gathering and organizing the pieces of his family history.

Charles is survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years, Glenda Jackson Carson; three children, Charlie Carson, Rhonda Myers and husband Steve, and Barbara Wise and husband, Chris; four grandchildren, Kyle and wife Liz, Carson, Alexis and Camden as well as three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Chaplain Jesse Tate will officiate. The interment will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 9, in Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Medical Center in Hampton for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VAMC Hampton PCP/Hospice Unit, Bldg 114, 100 Emancipation Dr., Hampton, VA 23667.
