Chesapeake - Mrs. Delores Taylor Fitzgerald, formerly of 2205 Hilton Court, Chesapeake, transitioned from her labor to reward on January 19, 2014. She was born to the late George E. Taylor, Jr. and Mrs. Clyde Tilley Taylor. Delores was predeceased by her daughter Deneen Maria Fitzgerald; granddaughters Denetra D. Fitzgerald, Maya D. Fitzgerald and Malaiya Fitzgerald; siblings George E. Taylor, III, Richard D. Taylor, Sr. and Ann Taylor Davenport.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of fifty years, Elston S. Fitzgerald, Jr; daughter Deborah R. Sanford; son Derrick M. Fitzgerald, Sr. (Faith); grandchildren Marlon D. Fitzgerald, Derrick M. Fitzgerald, Jr., Ashley F. Tennyson (Dwight), Kendra Upchurch, and Yolanda Keels-Walker; great-grandchildren Carter Tennyson, Cole Fitzgerald, Gabrielle Bailey (Keels-Walker) and London Bailey (Keels-Walker); sister-in-law Dr. Rosalyn E. Brown; and a host of devoted nephews, nieces, and friends.
Delores was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk. She attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1950, graduated from Virginia State College (University) in 1954, earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and had a forty-two year long career with Norfolk Public School as a teacher and administrator, retiring in 1995.
Her Homegoing Celebration will be held at First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk, VA 11 a.m. Monday, Dr. Robert G. Murray presiding. The viewing will be held 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Graves Funeral Home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will be at her home on 908 Hathaway Court in Chesapeake. Graves Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
