Virginia Beach - Eric William Furman, II, 1928-2013, of Virginia Beach, VA and formerly of Orange County, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013. He was 84 years old. Eric was an awarded veteran of World War II for his service as a Frogman in the UDT. Eric was a permanent member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans, and he belonged to the Commanders Club of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7638 in Gordonsville, VA where he became Vice-Commander. While aboard the U.S.S. Independence, Eric participated in Operation Cross Roads, Bikini Atoll at Marshall Islands during World War II, ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effect of the Atomic Bomb on naval vessels.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Carol Anne Furman; his loving daughter, Dr. Tammi Furman Milliken and son-in-law, Brian Shane Milliken; and four precious grandchildren, Vika, Noah, Ruby and Lukey, all of Virginia Beach, VA. Eric was also the loving father of Eric William Furman, Jr. and Linda Chasteen of West Covington, KY; and his beloved late daughter, Candy Elaine Furman of Norfolk, VA.
