J. James Davis Jr.
Chesapeake - January 27, 2013 -In the comfort of his home, "Jimmie" Davis, 93 years young, "slipped the surly bonds of the earth" to join his beloved wife of 63 earthly years - Cathleen - in Heaven.
A stranger to no one, a well-loved man of great integrity, story teller, woodworker, pilot and a retiree after 38 years of service to Ford Motor Company, Jimmie recently said "God has granted me a long life and he has been here when I needed Him. May he give others the many blessings he has given me."
Born November 19, 1919 in Richmond, VA, he attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary, graduated from the Civilian Pilot Training Course, served in the Coast Guard during World War II and later in the US Navy Air Reserve. He is a member of Rosemont Christian Church and has been a member of the American Legion Post 280, Norfolk County Historical Society, Norfolk County Grays Camp 1549 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Moose Lodge #898, Virginia Sheriff's Institute and was an Honorary Sheriff in Chesapeake, VA.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Cathleen Cordon Davis, of Bath N.C., sister, Anne D. Kristiansen.
He is survived by his son J. James Davis, III "JJ", daughter, Kay B'Smith (Paul) of Houston, TX; three grandchildren: Kirsty and Rebecca B'Smith of Escondida, CA, and Leilani B'Smith of Santiago, Chile; his brother, Morgan Davis (Sheri) of Virginia Beach, VA and their children, Michael Davis (Courtney), Jennifer Bangoura (Abdoulaye) and Lindsay; niece, Donna Eason (Bob) and their children, Joseph and Joey; a special niece, Shirley B. Perry and numerous family members including the Scheuermanns, Davises, Cordons and Pooles and a host of special neighbors and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 1, 11 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake, with Pastor Jerry Kilyk officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com where you may view the service if unable to attend or leave a note to the family.
