Virginia Beach - Jesse Warren Copeland, Jr. was born on July 18, 1929 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the youngest child of Mr. Jesse Warren Copeland, Sr. and Mrs. Bertha Gray Copeland. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1947. After graduation in 1947 he joined the U.S. Army. He graduated from Virginia State College in Petersburg, Virginia. He moved to Detroit, Michigan where he gave 30+ years as an educator in the Highland Park Public School system. After retirement he moved back home to Norfolk. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1996 where he began his final career as an educator. Upon arrival in Atlanta, he promptly joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a member of the MLK Choir, the male chorus, a church musician and also a historical tour guide for the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Finally in 2010, he returned home to live with his beloved sister, Audrey. He shortly then after became a member of Total Life Christian Center under the leadership of Dr. Mark S. Churn. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sisters; Bernice Copeland Howell and Joann Copeland Vaughan. We are blessed to have had "Bro" in our lives as a brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Left to cherish his wonder memories are his sister, Audrey L. Johnson, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; nieces: Avis S. Brown (Warnermaker) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Linda Johnson-Fardan (Anees) of Savannah, Georgia; Joann L. Johnson of Chesapeake, Virginia; nephews: Joseph Johnson of Sanford Florida; Alan Johnson of Norfolk, Virginia, Anthony Johnson (Tenesia) of Norfolk, Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from all over the world. We all give praises to God for his life. A wake service will be held 4 p.m. September 29th at Graves Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Noon, Monday, September 30th at Mt Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk with Dr. Mark S. Churn, officiating. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
