Mark S. Barnett Obituary
Mark S Barnett

Delmar, MD - Mark Stephen Barnett, husband, father, son, and brother, died June 20, 2014 in a Salisbury, MD hospice. He passed away after a 10-month battle with cancer, and five years after a quintuple heart bypass. Mark was born on Feb. 27, 1951 in Petersburg, VA to Cecil Knowles Barnett and Mildred Virginia Gaston Barnett. He grew up in Norfolk County and Chesapeake, VA, and had lived most recently near Roanoke, VA and Salisbury, MD.

Mark was a 1970 graduate of Indian River High School in Chesapeake, and a veteran of 20 years in the Air Force, where he worked with AWACS on aircraft. In his civilian life, he worked security for several companies until his health forced him to retire. His motivation throughout his life was always his family. He was loyal, quick-witted, and loved to joke, and he never took life too seriously. He faced his final illness with courage and composure.

Left to mourn Mark's passing are his wife, Beverly Kaye Newell Barnett of Delmar, MD, his daughter and son-in-law, Dana Leigh Barnett Duchaine and Jerome Matthew Duchaine of Fairfax, VT, twin grandsons, Stephen Matthew Duchaine and Raymond Marcus Duchaine of Fairfax, VT, a step-daughter, Kelly Wilkinson and a step-son, Matthew Wilkinson, both of Salisbury, MD.

Also surviving him are his mother and step-father, Mildred Berryman and Joseph Berryman of Norfolk, VA, his sister, Virginia Barnett of Norfolk, VA, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce Wayne Barnett and Estella Marie Dailey Barnett of Joppa, MD, and Jefry Alan "Barney" Barnett and Melanie Anne Lane Barnett of Columbus, OH, sisters-in-law, Denise Farrell and Karen Newell, three nieces, one nephew, a great-nephew, two great-nieces, two aunts and an uncle. His father, Cecil Barnett died on April 15, 1995 after a stroke, and his son, Stephen Todd Barnett, died Sept 30, 1990 in a car accident.

His memorial service was held on June 25, 2014 at the VFW 194 on East William St. in Salisbury, MD at 2pm. Condolences can be sent to Mildred Berryman, 513 Austin St., Norfolk, VA 23503.
