Oliver T. Mangum

Chesapeake - Oliver Thomas Mangum, 86, of Chesapeake, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013.

Born in Oxford, NC he was one of eleven children born to the late W.J. and Hettie Mangum. Tommy was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was active in his community, serving on the Indian River Booster Club, as Treasurer to raise monies and provide support for Indian River High School. He also served as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #42 and #438 where he led his troop to Philmont Scout Camp, NM and earned the Philmont Leadership award. He was a member of Doric Masonic Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M., where he served as Worshipful Master in 1977.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Mangum; children, Thomas Keith Mangum and wife Meike; Darlene Wilkinson and husband Byron; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; siblings, Margaret Pridgen and James Mangum, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, November 29, in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Dr. Ken Barnes will officiate.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
