Rodney King
Gainesville, FL - Mr. Rodney Lee "Rowdy" King, Jr., of Gainesville, FL, died suddenly on Saturday, January 5, 2013, in the Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
Mr. King was a native and longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, born August 7, 1955 to the late Rodney Lee, Sr. and Ann King. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Europe and travelling with the Army football and softball teams. His love of sports continued his whole life through, from playing, coaching and officiating almost every sport he could, playing even in the over-50 leagues in Port St. Lucie and in Gainesville. He was a member of the Port St. Lucie Elks Lodge, and was preceded in death by his brother, Mark King, and by two sisters, Joetta Bonds and Deborah Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Monica King, of Gainesville; two sons, Rodney King, III and Christopher King, both of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Amanda King, of Tampa and April George, of Portland, OR; his brother James "Bud" (Candy) King, of Mayock, NC; two sisters, Sharon (Ray) Potter and Ellen (Dennis) Moses, both of Virginia Beach, VA, along with a host of extended family.
A graveside burial service will be conducted Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 3:30 p.m., at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, 23454. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Alachua County.
