Ruben Gipson Jr.
Norfolk - Ruben Gipson Jr., 65, peacefully departed this life on October 18, 2012.
A native of Norfolk, he is predeceased by his parents Ruben and Solone Gipson. Ruben served his country as a U.S. Marine and was a Vietnam War Veteran. After his military service, he was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring after 36 years. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will always be remembered for his love of family, his words of kindness, encouragement and guidance, along with his love of life, travel and laughter. Ruben influenced and touched the lives of everyone who knew him well and his compassionate and uplifting spirit will forever be in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Joyce Gipson; two daughters, Shana Gipson of Alexandria and Altovise Gipson Colon of New York City; two grand-daughters, Nia and Maya Colon; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2012 at New Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel on Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com
