Susan Marie Borkoski, age 56, of Virginia Beach VA passed at home on April 8, 2014. Daughter of Stanley and Cathrine MacDonald Julius and step-mother Mildred Little, Susan was born in Yuba City CA was raised in Point Pleasant NJ and lived in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach VA the rest of her life. She graduated from Point Pleasant Burroughs High School in 1974, attended Rutgers College and completed her Bachelors of Science at George Washington University. Susan entered the US Navy in 1977, was married in 1998. She retired after serving 30 years in the Navy, as an Independent Duty Corpsman, earned numerous awards and advanced to Master Chief Hospital Corpsman (CMC), retiring from Portsmouth Naval Hospital in 2004.

Susan is survived by her father Stanley Julius of Tom's Rv NJ, daughters, Kathy Borkoski of San Diego CA; Theresa Lake/Owen, with granddaughters, Hailey and Emma of Virginia Beach VA; Donald Borkoski of Chesapeake VA; sisters Joanne Hart of Grapevine TX; Patricia Ruddick of Tom's Rv NJ; Valerie Herman of Howell NJ, Nancy Mocracik of Howell NJ; brothers Stanley Julius of New York NY and James Herman of Point Pleasant NJ. Upon Navy Retirement, Susan earned her Master's Degree in Education and taught in Virginia Beach Schools ending at Larksbur Middle Schools as a math and science teacher. Susan dedicated her life to helping others in and out of uniform. She coordinated mentorship in area schools and volunteered her services at local animal shelters and assisted living facilities. She will be sorely missed by her family, colleagues and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, April 14, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 1485 Kempsville Rd., Va. Beach, VA 23464. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 3-5 pm and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Navy Federal Credit Union, Susan Borkoski Memorial Fund. Susan will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC at a future date. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
