Virginia H. Hall of Virginia Beach (formerly Portsmouth) departed peacefully from this life on July 8, 2014 after a brief illness.
The Guest Book is expired.
She grew up in Spruce Pine, North Carolina and relocated to Portsmouth during World War II . She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mercer Hall. She is survived by children; Ann Hall Shank (Wayne) and John W. Hall (Mary Jane); grandchildren Erin Shank Conroy (Bradley), Eileen Virginia (Ellie) Hall, and John Mercer (Jack) Hall; a great-grandchild, Wesley John Conroy. She also leaves behind her very dear friend, Carrie Pfeiffer.
She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers' College and received her Masters Degree from Peabody College for Teachers, now part of Vanderbilt University, at age 20. She began her career as a teacher and retired as a librarian with Portsmouth Public Library. For many years she was an active member of Park View Baptist Church in Portsmouth. She lived for her faith and for her family and was tireless about encouraging her children and grandchildren to pursue their education and goals. She especially enjoyed the many music recitals and birthday celebrations given for her by her family at First Colonial Inn, where she lived the last 15 years of her life. She was an avid reader and book club member, always up on current affairs. Anything that interested her family interested her.
Her family wishes to thank the staffs of First Colonial Inn, Lake Taylor Hospital and the ladies of Becky's Helping Hands, especially Heather, Yvette, and Kim.

Aaron Britton, pastor of Talbot Park Baptist Church (formerly of Park View Baptist Church) at Loving Funeral Home Chapel, 3225 Academy Ave., Portsmouth, VA at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11.
