Virginia Beach - LCDR Wilbur Roy "Pat" Patterson, U.S. Navy (SEAL) Ret., passed on to smoother seas at age 82 after a long illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alicia Ann Smith Patterson; three sons, David Roy Patterson Sr. and wife Sharol of Virginia Beach, Va., Michael Thomas Patterson Sr. and wife Susan of Virginia Beach, Va., and James Christopher Patterson and wife Kelli of Fleming Island, Fla.; four grandsons, SGT David Roy Patterson Jr. U.S. Army of Virginia Beach, Va., Kevin Robert Patterson of Moyock, N.C., Michael Thomas Patterson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Joseph Mathew Patterson of Virginia Beach, Va.; one granddaughter, Emily Christina Patterson of Fleming Island, Fla.; two great granddaughters, Kasey Patterson of Moyock, N.C. and Alicia Christine Grace Patterson of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Martha Ryalls of DeLand, Fla., Melita Gober of Birmingham, Ala., Naomi Sanders of Huntsville, Ala., and Mary Ashford of Bristol, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
LCDR Patterson retired in 1974 following 24 years of service having served in USS Mullany (dd-528), Underwater Demolition Teams 4, 21, 22, 13 & SEAL Team TWO. He was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a Third Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 10804, Va. Beach, VA.
LCDR Patterson entered UDTR Class 11 in Aug. 1953 and graduated Nov. 1953. He was a lifetime member of UDT/SEAL Association based in Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek. Please; in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UDT/SEAL Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel . The funeral mass will be held at Church of the Holy Family on Thursday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Gaudencio Pugat as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
