William E. Twitty

Chesapeake - William E. Twitty, affectionately known as Bill, 71, of the 3500 block of Elkton Drive was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 4 at Maryview Medical Center. He was born in Portsmouth and graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in 1961. He graduated from Norfolk State University in 2000 with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Mr. Twitty retired with 22 years of service from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He also retired with 15 years of service from AMSEC in Newport News as a boiler technician. Mr. Twitty was a member of Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church in Portsmouth, Brighton Rock #79 F and AM, and American Legion Post #190.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Frances E. Twitty; two sons, Michael L. Twitty (Joyce) of Portsmouth and Charles J. Twitty (Patricia) of Waldorf, MD; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Trusty Swan of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren, Isaiah L. Twitty, Charles J. Twitty, Jr., and Christopher W. Twitty.

Viewing will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10 at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1248 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11 at Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, 1300 Centre Ave., Portsmouth with Rev. Brenda Jones officiating. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements.
