Chesapeake - William Joseph "Bill" O'Malley, 75, of Hunningdon Woods, passed away on Jan. 3, 2013.
Born in New York, NY, Bill was a retired Commander with the United States Navy. He was a veteran of Vietnam and was a recipient of the Bronze Star with combat V. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, and alumnus of State University of New York Maritime College.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean O'Malley, daughter, Karen Davidson and husband Tim of Virginia Beach, three sons, Kevin O'Malley of New York, Ken O'Malley and wife Cathy of Virginia Beach, Keith O'Malley of Phoenix, AZ, nine grandchildren, Kirsten, Scott and Brian Davidson, Erin, Ryan, Ian and Jack O'Malley, Savannah and Sierra Paasch, two sisters, Eileen Farrell and husband John, Ann Naused and husband George, two brothers, John O'Malley and wife Margie and Jim O'Malley.
Bill will be remembered as a shipmate, a fierce fighter for right and against evil and wrongdoing, a man who loved his family, who showed pride in his children and grandchildren, a man proud of his Church, proud of his Irish heritage - especially being the son of Irish Immigrants, a man proud of being a New Yorker, a man who loved the Giants. He was a man who made others laugh on gray days and was said to smile, "simply because the sun is shining". He will be missed.
The family will receive friends on Sun., Jan. 6, 2013, from 3-5 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Mon. at the Catholic Church of St. Mark with Fr. James Griffin celebrating. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. Mon. with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
