A memorial service for Bobbie Darnell will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be at a later date.

Bobbie Burns Darnell, 91, of Rochester, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Stewartville Care Center.
Bobbie was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Rochester, to Edwin and Gertrude (Root) Darnell. He attended local schools, and in 1942 entered the U.S. Army, serving his country until 1946. As a World War II veteran, he received a Combat Infantry Badge and also the Bronze Star. On Aug. 1, 1942, he married Marguerite Dison in Rochester. Marguerite passed away on Nov. 8, 1991. On May 10, 2003, Bobbie married Lorraine Day Nutting at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Bobbie retired from Marigold Dairy.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a daughter, Margo (Frank) Powers of Crystal; a son, Mark (Roxanne) Darnell of Rochester; three grandchildren, Brent, Daniel and Scott; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Emma and Braiden.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and a daughter, Anna Callier.
Bobbie belonged to the Rochester Quarterback Club, the Eagles Club and the Golden Gloves.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research.
Macken Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
