Donald Ernest Olson, 83, of Rosemount, formerly of Lake City, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Care Center in Chaska.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; son, Marc (Cheryl); daughter, Mary (David) Proeschel; grandchildren, Barrett (Rianna) and Kyle Olson, Malea Proeschel (fiance, Lance Dageford); sisters, June (Iver) Eggenberger and Carmen Weisz; brother-in-law, Merlyn Kohrs; sisters-in-law, Ardelle Schulz and Loraine Augustine; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Norma (Rosvall) Olson; sisters, Elizabeth (Ernest) Mattson, Jean (Kenneth) Wohlers; and brother, Bruce.

Don graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, with 20 months spent on the Essex Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War. He was employed by Cyanamid for 25 years.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to the Abbott Northwestern Heart Transplant Clinic of Minneapolis for their kindness and care during the 19-plus years following his transplant.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 14980 Diamond Path, Rosemount, MN 55068. Visitation will be at 5 p.m., and a fellowship will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
