John Siekert, a life-long resident of Rochester, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Saint Marys Hospital. He was 59.

John was born in Rochester, to Dr. Robert and Mary Jane Siekert. Growing up, John attended the Rochester public schools and was active in a variety of activities, including the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Zumbro Lutheran Church, band, swim club and little league sports. A natural athlete, John excelled in many sports, including baseball, football, tennis, golf and especially hockey. At Mayo High, John participated in numerous extracurricular activities, was a letter winner in hockey and tennis, and captain of the hockey team. He enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College where he played freshman hockey before transferring to the University of Minnesota.
John enjoyed reading, music, current affairs and spectator sports. John loved people and was known as a warm, friendly, compassionate, loyal and fun-loving guy with many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert and Mary Jane Siekert.
John is survived by his brothers, Bob (Linda) of Plano, Texas and Fred (Glenna) of Prior Lake; aunts, Lorraine Thomas of Mequon, Wis., and Sandra Evans of Tamaqua, Pa.; and cousins, Robert Thomas (Sharon) of Brown Deer, Wis., Jackie Niehaus (Bill) of West Bend, Wis., and Jack Evans of State College, Pa.
A memorial service is pending.
A private interment will occur later this fall.
