John L. Binner, 87, of Lake City, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Angel's Care Center in Cannon Falls.

He was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Kellogg, to John and Marie (Wampach) Binner. He grew up and attended school in Kellogg before joining the Navy in 1946. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Kellogg. On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Jeanine Rhodey at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview. The couple then lived in Wabasha for a short time. They moved to Lake City in 1950 where he worked as a maintenance foreman at AE Goetze for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He continued to work doing various jobs in the Lake City area.
He was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church. John enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working in the garden.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanine of Lake City; two children, Ron (Deb) Binner of Lake City and Susan (Rodney) Eischens of Zumbro Falls; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delores (Raymond) Weir of Maple Plain.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Gerald Binner; daughter, Karen Fick; two brothers, Donald and Eugene Binner; and one sister, Betty Lamey.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at church.
