Leo J. Graner, 85, of Wabasha, formerly of Hastings and earlier of Kellogg, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at his home at St. Elizabeth's Assisted Living Apartments. He was born July 31, 1928, in Kellogg, the son of Francis and Vineza (Costello) Graner. He was a graduate of Kellogg High School and, in 1952, he received a BA degree in economics from St. Mary's College in Winona. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1946-1948, serving in the 371st Ordnance ammunition detachment in Korea. Following the service, he returned to Minnesota. He worked 10 years for Northrup King in Minneapolis and various other cities. He then worked as an auditor for the Federal Land Bank in St. Paul for 22 years. He retired in 1988. He lived in Hastings since 1971 until moving to St. Elizabeth's Apartments this past November.

He was a former member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Kellogg. He was also a member of the Kellogg American Legion Post No. 546.

Leo is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Doug Marcou, Hudson, Wis.; brother and sisters-in-law, James and Magdeline Graner, Kellogg, Minn., and Ellie Graner, Kellogg, Minn.; seven nephews, Doug Marcou Jr., Kevin, Joseph, Paul and Daniel Graner and Mark and Ken Graner; four nieces, Debbie Wendt, Marie Stumpf, Valerie Carrels and Theresa Graner; and great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by brother, William Graner; an infant brother and infant sister; two nephews, Tom and Michael Graner; and his parents, Francis and Vineza Graner.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Kellogg American Legion, the Wabasha American Legion and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Posts. Casket bearers will be Doug Marcou Jr. and Mark, Kevin, Joe, Paul and Adam Graner. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
