Lloyd Luther Luehmann, 71, has claimed the promise given in 2 Peter 1:11: "You will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Lloyd died Friday afternoon, May 2, 2014, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.

Lloyd was born to Herbert and Esther (Prigge) Luehmann on May 29, 1942, in Lewiston (Silo). He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Silo, Concordia Academy & College in St. Paul, and graduated from Concordia College, Seward, Neb., in 1964. He received a master's degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1970. Lloyd was united in marriage to Miriam Friedrich on June 28, 1964, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rushford (Hart).

She survives, along with their three children, Mark (Bianca) Luehmann, Ada, Mich.; April (Jim White) Luehmann, Rochester, N.Y.; and Amy (Hakon) Strande, Woodinville, Wash.; five grandchildren, Niklas, Madeline, Daniel, Maya and Elisabeth; three brothers, Gene (Ann) Luehmann, Englewood, Ohio; Rev. Al (Laura) Luehmann, Gaylord; and Howard (Vickie) Luehmann, Lewiston; one sister, Betty (Lyle) Hoppe, Savannah, Mo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gus (Betty Turock) Friedrich, Highland Park, N.J.; Wallace Fromm, Sparta, Wis.; Mary and Chuck Rohe, Zumbrota; Muriel and Gene Stark, Glenwood; and Marilyn Friedrich, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Elmer Luehmann.

Lloyd was a teaching principal in Lutheran Church Missouri Synod schools for 41 years. His first call was to Trinity Lutheran School, Lowden, Iowa, where he was the principal and taught grades 5-8 from 1964-1974. From 1974-1993, Lloyd was the principal and 5th and 6th grade teacher at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Kewanee, Ill. In 1993, Lloyd and Miriam moved to Austin, where Lloyd was the principal and taught at Holy Cross Lutheran School from 1993-2005.

Lloyd enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Brazil (twice), Norway, Alaska, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, the Rocky Mountains, and the Great Smokey Mountains. Together with Miriam, he biked many miles, cross country skied, and golfed. He was a driver for the Senior Center, helped with the NAPS program at the Senior Center and was a volunteer at the Hormel Nature Center.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Thomas Ogilvie, officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Silo near Lewiston.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, May 5, at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
