Verona Bargsten, 90, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Lake City Care Center.

She was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Florence Township, to William and Dorthea (Roper) Witt and grew up and attended rural school there. She then attended the school of agriculture at the University of Minnesota. Verona was united in marriage to Erwin Bargsten on June 9, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Florence. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed in Hay Creek Township and Belvidere Township for many years. They moved to Lake City in 1997.
She enjoyed gardening and also was an avid bird lover and seeded appreciation for future generations of cooking and enjoying good food. She also loved spending time with her friends and family.
Verona is survived by three sons, Dale (Beth), of Corvallis, Ore., Stephen (Carol), of Stillwater, and Stanley (Denise), of Lake City; one daughter, Nancy Bargsten, of Chisago City; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Witt, of Washington, LaVern (Phyllis) Witt, of Lake City, and Glen, of Arizona; four sisters, Irene Peper, of Lake City, Elaine Kaehler, of Minnetonka, Shirley Klovstad, of Arizona, and Janice (John) Campe, of Minnesota.
Verona was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Erwin.
Memorial service will be held Saturday March 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church Frontenac, with the Rev. Stephen Kurtzahn officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Lake City at a later date.
