Wayne Eugene Anderson, 79, of Hayfield, formerly of Sargeant, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness of advanced heart disease.

Friends share memories with the family from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. N.W., in Hayfield, and one hour prior to the funeral.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First St. S.E., in Hayfield, with Rev. Lyle Aadahl and Rev. Dick Erickson co-officiating. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, Sargeant, with military honors by the Hayfield American Legion, Rothie Post # 330.

Wayne was born June 23, 1934, in Rose Creek, the son of Gilbert and Grace (Goldberg) Anderson. Wayne graduated from the University of Minnesota-St. Paul Campus in 1956, and was employed at the Del Monte Canning Factory prior to being drafted into the Army in 1957. After basic training, he married Carol Lokensgard at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in St. Peter, and they began their married life at Fort Lee, Va. Following his military service, he returned to Minnesota where he farmed with his father near Sargeant. Wayne purchased his own farm near Sargeant in 1962, and along with farming his land, he raised dairy cows and hogs until his barn was demolished by a tornado in the mid-70's. His next venture was an auto body and small engine repair business which was located in a steel building on his building site. In 1984, the business transitioned into Anderson Auto Center and was moved to its present location in Hayfield in 1986.

Wayne kept busy with his Dixon Lawn mower dealership and used car dealership. He loved to spend time outdoors gardening and he was happiest when he could supply family and friends with vegetables and produce from his large garden. Wayne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed sharing a morning cup of coffee and a laugh with his friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Carol Anderson, Hayfield; three children, Kristy (John) Mattson, Muskegon, Mich.; Neal (Regena) Anderson, Hayfield; Jay (Mary Pat) Anderson, also of Hayfield; five  grandsons, John (Cassie), Shakopee; Cory, St. Louis Park; and Tyler, Trevor and Aaron, all of Hayfield; one infant great-granddaughter, Anamarie; three siblings, Phyllis (Charles) Kirchner, Rochester; Bonnie (John) Roberts, Annandale; and Patricia (Ed) Zazzarino, Atlantic Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Blessed be his memory.
