The memorial service for Wayne Phillip Iverson will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Shelley Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mr. Iverson, 84, of Rochester, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at home of natural causes.

Wayne was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Peterson, to Ingvald and Laura Benston Iverson. Mr. Iverson married Marjorie Sonnenberg on Feb. 22, 1958, in Rochester. Marge survives. Wayne farmed for many years in the Peterson area, before moving to Rochester in 1984 where he worked in building maintenance.

Wayne was on the Peterson School Board for 16 years and was on the Arendahl Township Board for 28 years. He also helped start the rural Lanesboro Fire Department. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Marge of 58 years; daughter, Lori (Mike) Jergenson of Chatfield; sons, Thomas (Karla) Iverson of Minnetrista and David Iverson of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather and Stefanie Jergenson and Seth Iverson; and great-grandchildren, Dillon Jergenson and Abby Westergard.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lynn, and sister-in-law, Alice.

Wayne was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club, the VFW, and 40/8.

Wayne had his pilot's license and loved to fly. He also loved caning chairs and fishing trips to Canada.
