Alice Thoreson

Alice M. Thoreson, 86, of Kenyon, formerly of Zumbrota, died on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Kenyon Sunset Home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing, with Fr. Stephen Gheen officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Alice Mae Thermos was born on July 7, 1930, in Appleton, WI to James and Lola (nee Nicolet) Thermos. Alice grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Central High School in 1950. She attended the University of Minnesota for one year before going to work in the office at Red Wing Pottery. On June 5, 1955, she married Otto Thoreson at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing. They made their home on the Thoreson family farm and together they farmed until retiring in 2010. After retiring, they continued to live on the farm. Otto died in January 2013 and Alice moved to Kenyon in 2014. Alice loved to take walks and inspect the crops in the field. She also enjoyed cooking, bird watching and dancing. When her children and grandchildren were younger, Alice volunteered as a 4-H Leader. Alice was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Thomas Jordan) Thoreson of Eagan; son, James (Taryn) Thoreson of Zumbrota; grandsons, Blake and Colton Thoreson; and sister-in-law, Lucille Thermos of Red Wing.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; parents; and brother, Stephen Thermos.
