August Francis Becker, 84 of Appleton died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born August 1, 1929 in Fond du Lac, WI, son of the late August Sr. and Anna Laverne (nee' Martin) Becker. August married Anne Miller on June 26, 1953.
August served his country in the U.S. Army. He joined the Army when he was seventeen and had been already working in a paper mill. August spent his first three years in Alaska with the Army Signal Corps, as a lineman. He then fought the first 13 months of the Korean Conflict on the front lines as an infantryman, a radio and telephone specialist. He earned five Bronze Stars for his service.
August is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anne; brother, Carl (Jenny) Becker, Oshkosh, WI; sister, Patricia Nowak, Appleton, WI; his seven children, Catherine (Jack) Hayes, Kalama, WA, Laura (Mike) Huhn, of Fairbanks, AK, Carol Smith, Madison, WI, David (Linda) Becker, Sebastian, FL, Elizabeth (Matt) Becker-Lindsay, New York, NY, Diana (Alan) Lawrence, Appleton, WI, Trudi (Brian) LaRose, Brooklyn Park, MN; eleven grandchildren, Linsey Grignon, Camas, WA, Bryce Grignon, Vancouver, WA, Andy Huhn and Sara (Sean) Maraj, Fairbanks, AK, Robbin, Tyler and Adam Smith, Madison, WI, Matthew Becker, Sebastian, FL, Daniel Young, New York, NY, Jennifer Reschke, Appleton, WI, Darian and Malcolm LaRose, Brooklyn Park, MN and three great grandchildren. He was further preceded in death by one sister, Alice Becker and two brothers, Robert and Earle.
In keeping with Augusts' wishes, a private family service was held.
