Eleanor Virginia Hobbs Rosenberg died February 27, 2013, at her home in Evanston, Illinois, age 83. The cause of death was complications of breast cancer. Ms. Rosenberg, known as Ginny, was born November 9, 1929, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Charles Coban Hobbs, an accountant, and Daisy Stevens Hobbs, a secretary. She spent much of her childhood in Alexandria, Virginia, moving to Harriman, Tennessee, at age 14 after the untimely death of her father. She attended college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, on a Pepsi-Cola scholarship and double majored in math and chemistry. She worked for GD Searle as a chemist after graduation before marrying Robert Rosenberg in 1951. She and her husband moved to Appleton in 1956 and lived there until 1991. Her husband taught chemistry at Lawrence University, while she raised three children and was active in many community activities, including the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, Appleton Redevelopment Authority, Appleton Memorial Hospital Board and the Memorial Presbyterian Church. She also completed a Master's Degree in Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976 and worked for Kendall Corporation and American Can Corporation for 8 years. She and her husband moved to Evanston, Illinois, in 1991 and lived there until her death. She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Charles Rosenberg of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughter, Margaret Rosenberg Wilde of Bronx, New York; granddaughter, Emma James Wilde and grandson, Nathaniel Richard Wilde; and sister Catherine Hobbs Amos, of San Jose, California. Her son, James Steven Rosenberg predeceased her in August 1994.
