James C. Flavin

James Flavin, 93, Menasha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Matthews of Appleton, with his family by his side. James was born on November 23, 1919, in Springfield, Ohio, son of Thomas Patrick and Margaret (Hanrahan) Flavin. James was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in World War II. He was united in marriage to Julia M. Guisinger on March 17, 1945, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She preceded him in death on November 16, 1989. Many will remember James for his time spent in public service, most notably his time spent as a Menasha Alderman and Winnebago County Board Supervisor. James was a very involved member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Menasha, where he served as an usher, communion distributer and parish secretary for 35 years. He was also an active member of the Menasha Elks Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Nicolet Council.

James is survived by his children: Juliana (Mike Finet) Flavin, Sherwood; Thomas (Joan) Flavin, Indialantic, FL; and Eileen Flavin, Wauwatosa; three grandchildren: Jennifer (Steve) Ziebart, Slinger; Kathryn Flavin, Miami, FL; and Daniel Flavin, New York, NY; two great grandchildren: Jacob and Maddie Ziebart; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, James was further preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Thomas Eugene "Gene" Flavin and Robert L. Flavin.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Church, 516 De Pere St., Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass. Immediately following the Mass, full military honors will be presented by members of the U.S. Army and the Neenah Menasha Veterans Honor Guard.

James' family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Matthews Senior Living of Appleton.
