Richard F. "Dick" Volp

Richard F. "Dick" Volp, age 96, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 15, 2013.

Dick was born on July 4, 1916 in Eureka, WI, son of Richard and Anna (Nordhaus) Volp, and his step-mom Louise (Franzen) Volp.

He attended schools in the Winneconne area. Dick served in the U. S. Army during WWII, from 1942 to 1946, and following his honorable discharge from the service he completed a short course in Tractor and Training Engineering at the University of Portland, OR.

In his service to his country he served in the Pacific Theater, serving in Headquarters Services 1393 Engineers, earning the Bronze Star in the Battle of Layette, and was stationed in Japan when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

He married Audrey Head, daughter of Orville and Anna (Meier) Head, on December 30, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge. He and Audrey celebrated 65 years of marriage on Dec. 30, 2012.

Dick retired from Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. in Kaukauna with 31 years of service to the company.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, where he served on the Ushers Society. He was a lifelong member of Calumet County V.F.W. Post 3153, Stockbridge American Legion Post 128, and a charter member of the WWII Memorial.

He served on the Planning and Zoning Committee for the Village of Stockbridge for many years.

Dick enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling, and puttering in his workshop. He had a wonderful smile, a great sense of humor, and he enjoyed telling stories to his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his loving wife Audrey; his 6 siblings, Bernice (Marvin) Nussbaumer, Marie Perkins, Barbara Hoppe, Gertrude (Herman) Muchnick, Jerome Volp, Robert Volp; his wife's family, Beatrice Hoelzel, Jeanette Head; his god-children, Bob Mangan, Tom Landusky, Susan Head-Schoen, Dick Volp, Sister Maria "Vicky" Volp, Brian Volp, Jane Hoelzel-Warren; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of dear friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna Volp; his step-mom, Louise Volp; his siblings and in-laws, Beatrice (Harold) Sontag, Norman (Mary) Volp, Raymond (Evie) (Mary) Volp, Bill (Jean) Binsfield, Dolores Volp, Ralph Perkins, Walter Hoppe; his wife's family, Marcel (Clarice) Head, Jerome (Loretta) Head, James Head, Gilbert Hoelzel, and Grace (Donald) Ortlieb.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:15 PM on Saturday January 19, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Military Rd.) in Stockbridge, with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3153, and American Legion Post 128 following the mass. Burial will take place in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church in Stockbridge on Saturday from 10AM until 1PM.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the name of Dick Volp.

Dick's family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Calumet Medical Center, Affinity Health System, and to anyone who helped in any way during this time of our sorrow. Dick will be sadly missed by his many relatives and friends.
