Robert John Bentle
Age 66, of Hortonville, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on October 31, 1947 in Appleton, son of the late Milton "Boots" and Florence (Hartsworm) Bentle. On September 16, 1967, he was united in marriage to Donna Schwandt in Shiocton. Bob graduated from Shiocton High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Army Reserve and served as Sgt. for the 395th Ordinance Company from 1966-1972. He was a member of the American Legion Post 512 in Shiocton. Bob worked for his dad and uncles at Bentle Bros. Cheese Factory in the Town of Ellington until it closed. He then worked for Weyauwega Milk Products, then Waste Management. In 1972, he started Bob's Small Engine Repair in the Town of Ellington, and was still active in that until his death. Bob was active in his community, starting in 1972 with the Hortonville Rural Fire Department and Town of Ellington Fire Department also serving as Fire Chief until 2008. He was instrumental in starting the Hortonville, Ellington, and Greenville First Responders and was a member of the Outagamie County Arson Task Force. He was the current Constable for the Town of Ellington and a past member of the Fox Valley Fire Chiefs Association. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stephensville. He served on many church and community boards and committees. Bob was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife Donna; 3 sons: Tom (Lynn), Jim (Jari) and John, all of Hortonville; 5 grandchildren: Justin Evans and friend Nicolet Collier, Ethan Bentle, Kaitlynn Bentle, Clayton Rockwell and Baylee Bentle; 1 great-grandchild: Piper Evans; 2 sisters: Jean (Gavino) Martinez, Appleton; Sharon (Joe) Stilp, Shiocton; a brother-in-law: Barry (Jane) Schwandt, Shiocton; also nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and also his father and mother-n-law Marlyn "Hap" and Rosan (Herminath) Schwandt and a nephew Dennis Guyette.
The Christian Funeral for Bob will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stephensville with Rev. Joel Lillo officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery in the Town of Bovina. A visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stephensville and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob's name.
