Sellnow, Walter E.

Walter E. Sellnow, age 93, of Neenah, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Valley VNA. Walter was born on November 4, 1920 to the late Walter and Elda (Huebner) Sellnow in Embarrass, Wisconsin. He married his childhood sweetheart, Ethel A. Bohlmann, on August 8, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah, and they enjoyed almost 72 happy years together. Walter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from childhood on, being confirmed and married there. He served on a number of church committees, and also held several offices, including a stint as President.

Walter served in the Army Air Corps during WWII: stateside, in Panama, and in India, and was honorably discharged in the rank of Captain. Walter graduated Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, with a BA degree in Accounting and Marketing.

After college graduation, Walter was employed for 33 years with Wisconsin Container Corporation, which later merged into Menasha Corporation. During his residence and work years in Neenah-Menasha, Walter was very active in community service.

Walter had a passion for golfing, fishing, and bowling, and remained active in them through retirement, where they lived on the Wolf River in Fremont, where he was active on the local Village Board, and Meals-on-wheels deliveries to shut-ins.

Walter is survived by his wife, Ethel; two daughters: Susan (Michael) Allen, Tucson, AZ; Julie Miller, Appleton; three grandchildren: Andrew (Sara) Miller, Hartford, WI, Daniel (Kelly) Miller, Milwaukee, Mickey (Scott) Stratil, Black Creek; two great grandsons: Wyatt and Levi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Professor D.C. Sellnow.

The Christian Memorial Service for Walter will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah with Rev. Tony L. McKenzie officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Walter's name.
